Lost in a sea of camouflage and “COMME des FUCKDOWN” beanies, I searched for familiar faces on stage through the hazy remnants of grape Swishers. Showbox Sodo was packed with all ages at A$AP Rocky’s sold out show. Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q and A$AP Mob dominated the warehouse while passed out kids were escorted away after a night of debauchery.

Sun rays seeped through the doors and smoke masked the vibrations of ONUINU.

Looking for rest, relief, and refueling with drinks, I walked in Neumos and stopped in my tracks to this beat.

Tribute to Yukimi Nagano

Tribute to Yukimi Nagano

Tycho

Memorial weekend at Sasquatch in George, Washington was memorable indeed with performances from the likes of Explosions in the Sky, Bon Iver, and Little Dragon.

Tycho, especially, left me in awe. Beautiful imagery of women swimming in the water flickered in the background as he played his set in the tent.

His music, visionary, depicts a story better than most lyrics can.

Watching from the back of the bar, the stage was illuminated by the logo of Seattle’s notorious coffee company, “Starbucks” as special guests Poor Moon played. The theatre was the perfect setting for the second “Little Big Show,” a concert series created to benefit Seattle’s art organizations.
As Poor Moon finished, I scrambled my way up in front to witness the much anticipated Real Estate. Their performance, humble, intimate, and exceeding all expectations.
Real Estate performed widely acclaimed songs as well as one unreleased track.
As the crowd dispersed after the last song, I met up with guitarist Matthew Mondanile as he made his way through the people outside. Pulling out a pack of Camels, concert attendees came up to praise his band’s performance. One eager girl asked if the lead singer was take. She left disappointed after Mondanile responded, “He’s actually engaged.”
“Seattle’s alright,” Mondanile said, “my favorite city is probably L.A.” Preparing for a plane ride to Coachella tomorrow, their stay in the rainy city was brief. He witnessed the resurrection of Tupac at the Coachella festival last weekend. “It’s kind of creepy that they can do that with holograms,” he laughed. We parted ways as I made him promise to play at my funeral.

Real Estate at the Neptune, one of the best shows I’ve seen in awhile.

Caveman is one band comprised of five men: Matthew Iwanusa, Jimmy Carbonetti, Stefan Marolachakis, Sam Hopkins, and Jeff Berral. They have captured the essence of being caught up in a reverie through their music.
Far from uncivilized, New York’s Caveman sounds effortless yet meticulously crafted. Transitions throughout their songs is somewhere between The Morning Benders and Arcade Fire with their own entrancing ambient spark.
“Old Friend” off Caveman’s album Coco Beware encompasses this relationship they’ve established.
Complex collectivism arise from simple lyrics, taking listeners through every season and an array of emotions.
Although they just formed in January 2010, Caveman has already played alongside the likes of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, Cursive, and Blue Oyster Cult.

Video

my place of serenity in the city of subdued excitement.

my place of serenity in the city of subdued excitement.

Spring Fever

The symptoms of spring fever begin to arise with love struck dazes as winter fades.
